F. O. William Evans Thomas & the Books of Remembrance
Every morning at 11 am sharp, a solemn ceremony takes place in the memorial chamber of the Peace Tower in Canada's Parliament Buildings.
During the ceremony, a House of Commons Protective Service Staff Officer turns a page of each of the seven Books of Remembrance. Then, the officer bows, salutes and marches to the next book.
On 28 November 2008, the page (p. 507) for William Evans Thomas will be revealed. It should be noted that a limited number of members of the public are invited to view the ceremony.
Flight Officer Thomas, a pilot in the RCAF, died on 12 August 1945 in London, England. He is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England. He is remembered online at the The Canadian Virtual War Memorial.
