Passing of Last Living Grandson of Stephen Wilson Kinsey

On 12 October 2008, Stephen Charles Kinsey, the last living grandson of Stephen Wilson Kinsey, passed away in Kelowna, British Columbia.

Stephen Charles Kinsey was born in Boissevain, Manitoba on 14 April 1918 to John and Irene Kinsey. Alas, this leaves his sister, Phyllis Patricia Underhill, as the last living grandchild of S W Kinsey.

KINSEY, Stephen Charles of Kelowna, BC passed away peacefully on October 13, 2008 at the Kelowna Hospice at the age of 90.

Born in Boissevain, Manitoba in 1918, Stephen started work with the CPR at Princeton in 1935. He worked for the Railway for 42 years and retired after many years as a Locomotive Engineer. His service was interrupted from 1939 until 1945 while he served with the RCAF during WWII. His retirement was filled with Bridge, Golf, Curling and Travel.

He will be lovingly missed by his family of 6 Children: Lynne Blair of Westbank, Steve (Eileen) Kinsey of Kelowna, Cal (Linda) of Mexico, Rob (Deb) Kinsey of St. Albert, Alberta, Carey Pearce of Coquitlam, Dave (Jacki) Kinsey of Nanaimo, 15 Grandchildren: - Michael, Cameron, Christine, Jennifer, James, Jack, Tim, Rob, Lisa, Jessica, Steve, Laura, Tom, Nicole, Stephen, 13 great grandchildren and his sister, Pat Underhill of Portland, Oregon, He will be sadly missed at the bridge table by his long time friend and bridge partner Jeannie Houston of Kelowna. Stephen was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Irene in 1994, and by 7 siblings, Eddie, Gwen, Albert, Herbert, Evelyn, Jack and Gerald. He is deeply mourned by his faithful companion and best friend, "Sparky". The family wishes to thank the staff of the Kelowna Hospice and Hawthorne Park for their care and compassion and special thanks to Doctors Koss and Borthistle and the staff of the Kelowna Cancer Center.

Messages of condolence for the family may be sent to hansonswb@shaw.ca. Donations in Stephen’s memory may be made to the Kelowna Hospice, 2035 Ethel Street, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 2X6. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at the Benvoulin Heritage Church in Kelowna. A private interment will be held in Kelowna at a later date.
